Engine 4 & Ladder 4 were dispatched to a possible working fire in an
apartment on Hilo Dr. Upon turning on N. Tryon St., a large column of black
smoke was observed from the area. Engine 11 arrived and advised that they had
smoke and flames visible, and to strike a second alarm. Engine 15 reversed laid
from Engine 11 to the hydrant, while Ladder 4 set the aerial up for
ventilation. Engine 4’s crew was assigned to take a high rise line into the
apartment for suppression. As Ladder 4’s crew cut the first vent hole, fire came
thru the roof. A second vent hole was also cut by Ladder 4.
