Engine 11 was dispatched to assist police with an alarm at a auto body shop
on N. Tryon St. Upon arrival Engine 11 noticed heavy smoke coming from the
eaves of the building and upgraded to a working fire. Engines 4, 7, 1 Ladder 4,
Rescue 3, & Batt. 1 were dispatched. Engine 7 caught the hydrant for Engine 11
while they stretched a 2-˝" handline inside. Engine 4 was assigned to
assist Engine 11 inside with a second 2-˝ “ handline. Ladder 4 was
assigned to vent the roof. Batt. 1 arrived on scene and upgraded to a 2nd
alarm. Inside the building Engine 4 & Engine 11 encountered high heat and no
visibility. The fire ended up being a van fully involved inside a paint booth
about 75 feet into the building. Engine 4 extinguished the fire and ventilation
was completed by Ladder 4 and Ladder 1 by cutting the roof and opening roll up
doors to the front and rear. Companies that responded were:
